GITEX 2022
GITEX 2022, one of the world’s largest technology shows held in Dubai in October, generated a record Dh2.6 billion ($698 million) worth of total economic output, Dubai World Trade Centre said in a report on Wednesday detailing its economic effect assessment. The report said nearly $394 million, almost 57 percent of the total output, was retained in the Dubai economy.
we predicted that the 42nd technology expo, held at DWTC from October 10 to 14, would create 9,600 employment opportunities and generate Dh463 million in disposable family income, marking a 55 percent increase from the previous year. It attracted more than 170,000 attendees; 40 percent (68,000) international.
Dubai’s vice president and ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, referred to the occasion as the “largest technology exhibition in the world.”
DWTC director general Helal AlMarri said: “GITEX has been a critical contributor to the economic growth of Dubai.
According to the DWTC study, almost 50% of the foreign guests traveled with a companion this year and spent an average of 6.4 days in Dubai.
GITEX featured over 5,000 exhibiting companies from 90 countries, spanning two million square feet of exhibition space, a 25 percent year-on-year increase, and matching the scale of 33 football pitches.
The event was also rated as the world’s best large-scale exhibition of any industry by GRS, a Dubai-based independent event industry research consultancy.

1. Test of Flying Car
One of the eye-catchers during GITEX GLOBAL was the XPENG X2. This two-person flying “car,” created by XPENG Aeroht, will be available in 2024. By then, it should be able to fly within cities, if only a few meters above the ground.

3. Health Care Gets Extra Attention
The UAE anticipates significant technological innovation in the healthcare sector. The Thumbay Group, a company that unveiled new initiatives at GITEX GLOBAL, will be the source of such innovation. The Thumbay Group is developing a “full-fledged virtual hospital in the metaverse.” In this hospital, physicians may work together on a case to ensure the patient receives the proper care.
A more tangible reality in healthcare comes from robots supporting surgeries. In the UAE, Da Vinci surgical robots have carried out 230 surgeries since 2019.
